From Monday the 28th of April to Friday the 2nd of May ChArMEx will be at the European Geophysical Union 2014 Symposium in Vienna.

Like last year, EGU organizers have dedicated a session to the Mediterranean Chemistry but this year it's a full day program with 25 presentations made by teams involved in ChArMEx!

This session will be opened by a solicited talk given by François DULAC, ChArMEx's Coordinator.

Please have a look at the program by clicking on the below picture.

Last but not least "Science ON AIR, Operation ChArMEx", the documentary on ChArMEx's 2013 field campaign (see previous post) will be on display at the Scientific Film Festival of the EGU (called GeoCinema). If you are in Vienna next week make sure to join us at the Austria Center Vienna (Room B12, on the Blue Level) on:

  • Mon 28 April, 16:15-17:00
  • Tue 29 April, 12:30-13:15

ChArMEx Science ON AIR

Last summer, a team from CNRS Images (the film production unit of the CNRS) has followed the 2013 ChArMEx field campaign for a marathon-like journey. They jumped from one mediterranean island to another trying to keep track with the balloon teams in Menorca, the aircraft crews in Cagliari, the scientists from Lampedusa and Cape Corsica and finally the crew from the Zero CO2 sailboat in Maccinagio. This was "hell in Paradise"!

This film, "Science en plein ciel" (33'), is now playing here:

It will also be played on June the 16th at 13:00 in the conference room of the CNRS headquaters in Paris (3 rue Michel Ange – Paris 16ème). It will be followed by "Méditerranée le temps des mesures" (14'), a film dedicated to HyMeX program.

Will keep you inform

One Workshop a month!

Since the end of our summer field campaign (10th of August), ChArMEx teams have worked hard at getting the best out of their measurements.

Three workshops and one international conference have already taken place within a 4 months period of time. And 2014 will not be different since a SOP1 Workshop is planned on the 23rd and 24th of January in International Conference Center of Toulouse.

This workshop is organized in collaboration and in the wake of the AMA-2014 (www.meteo.fr/cic/meetings/2014/AMA) which will be held from January the 20th to January the 22nd and will focus on aerosols. And more than half of the talks will be linked to ChArMEx activities!

The next workshop will gather all the scientific teams involved in ChArMEx SOP1 campaign that took place in June, July and August 2013 in the western-Mediterranean basin. The goal of this workshop is to continue the exploitation and valorization of the data obtained during the campaign through peer-review papers (see article ChArMEx Special Issue now opened below) and international conferences.

ChArMEx SOP1 investigated pollution in the western-Mediterranean basin using airborne measurements (ballons and aircraft) and ground-based measurements and an amazing electrical sailboat!

A Workshop Season!

This fall, workshops follow each other at a very high pass! After the ChArMEx 2013 Campaign Debriefing last September and the First ChArMEx Lampedusa International Data Workshop last October, we are pleased to announce the organisation on November the 20th, in Toulouse (Coriolis room of the Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées), of the Second PreChArMEx/TraQA workshop!

This workshop will gather all the scientific teams involved in the preChArMEx/TraQa campaign that took place in June and July 2012 in the western-Mediterranean basin. The goal of this workshop is to continue the exploitation and valorization of the data obtained during the campaign through peer-review papers (see article ChArMEx Special Issue now opened below) and international conferences.

PreChArMEx/TraQA investigated pollution in the western-Mediterranean basin using airborne measurements (ballons and aircraft) and ground-based measurements. It successfully tested a new measurement strategy to study pollution aging using pressurised balloons (BPCL) that can fly the same air mass for several days and aircraft measurements. The idea was to launch BPCL inside pollution plumes to act as trackers and to send the aircraft look for the balloons at different times in order to sample the same air mass at different time laps. Not an easy job!
